How long does an assignment take?
Plan on about an hour to a few hours, depending on assignment complexity. Research, document reading and report assembly run in one workspace, with the source evidence ready for your review.
Will my copy update automatically?
Yes. Compatible customer copies check about 90 seconds after launch and every four hours, download signed updates in the background and apply them when you quit. The next launch uses the new version with your workspace and activation preserved. Every platform now receives v0.2.17. Copies older than v0.2.4 need a one-time manual installation from the download page.
What is new?
The blue assistance box asks for the precise missing record or fact. The red AI recovery box helps restore a connection. Interrupted assignments can be continued, saved records reused, and ownership fractions and net mineral acres carried into your client workbook. See the latest features and all recent fixes.
Which county-record sources can I use?
CountyRecords.com for connected county-index research, CourthouseDirect for configured subscription viewing, and the TexasFile adapter on Windows (v0.2.15 and later) for free-index searches and page-priced PDFs. You can also add instruments you already hold to Downloaded Docs.
Do my title documents go to the cloud?
Local OCR, exact-fraction arithmetic and report assembly run on your computer. The current automated title-examination workflow sends selected page images to the AI provider you chose after consent; Drive, county-records and other connectors receive only what their task requires.
Does TitleDesk need an internet connection?
Local OCR and existing project files can work offline. Automated assignment research needs internet access for the county-records provider, the selected AI and Drive delivery; licensing also checks in periodically.
Do I have to use AI?
Local OCR, project records, exact-fraction arithmetic, billing and report assembly work without AI. The current automated title-assignment and page-examination workflow requires a connected AI that can read page images; you select the provider, and TitleDesk tests it before searching or spending.
Why does the ownership math matter so much?
Because decimals lie. 1/3 as a decimal is 0.333…, and three of them do not add to 1. TitleDesk uses exact fractions, so 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 is exactly 1 and an over-conveyance is reported as an exact excess such as "over by 1/4".
Can I trust what the AI extracted?
Every proposed date, party and fraction links to the source page. Review the record, then accept, correct or reject the reading. Your source documents and calculations stay beside the work product.
Which AI can I connect?
Connect an existing ChatGPT/Codex or Claude subscription, choose an API provider, or use a local Ollama model. TitleDesk tests your selected connection during setup. Your AI plan limits apply; API billing stays with the provider you choose.
Can I reinstall without entering my card again?
Yes. Open the download page, choose “I already have a code,” paste your activation code and click Unlock. Choose your installer and activate on your licensed computer. Your existing subscription continues.
How do I start a Texas assignment?
Open Project Run, complete the CountyRecords, template, Drive and AI setup rows, paste your assignment, add the documents you already have and click Read assignment. Review the facts, set a purchase ceiling and choose Run AI research.
Can I use documents obtained elsewhere?
Yes. Import saved PDFs and TIFFs from your own records or research providers. Add the county and recording citation in Downloaded Docs so the assignment can reuse the right instrument.
What is a seat?
One licensed computer. Purchases issue exactly the number of activations you buy; each computer activates once from the licence email.
Which operating systems are supported?
macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows and Linux. Download v0.2.18 for Windows, or v0.2.17 for Mac and Linux, from the download page. Mac images are signed and notarized; the Windows v0.2.18 installer is not yet code-signed and a signed copy follows (If Windows shows Windows protected your PC, choose More info, then Run anyway); the Linux AppImage includes a signed verification receipt.
Is there a trial?
Yes, two. Individuals get a 7-day free trial of the full product from the download page: a card is required and verified with a $1 charge that is refunded immediately; cancel within the 7 days and nothing is billed, otherwise the seat continues at $199 a month. Companies get a free 14-day Enterprise demo on up to five computers, no card, with a setup call from Spencer.
How do I cancel?
Open title-desk.com/manage/ and paste the activation code from your purchase email, or ask for a link to the address that bought the seat; then choose Cancel subscription in the billing portal. There is no account or password. Cancelling inside a 7-day trial means you are never charged; after that, cancelling stops the next renewal and the seat keeps working to the end of the period already paid. Enterprise demos and licences issued directly were never billed, so there is nothing to cancel; write sales@theharnesslab.com to end one.
Does it work in Texas only?
The Texas workflow is the most developed — county index by abstract and party, GLO patents, RRC data — but the runsheet, ownership, curative and packaging are not Texas-specific.
What happens if a county document purchase fails mid-click?
The intent was written to disk before the click. An uncertain attempt is reconciled rather than retried, and a receipted document is reused rather than bought again.
